Lee Dong Hwi is a South Korean actor and singer who grew up wanting to draw comics, decided his drawing would never say what he meant, and enrolled in the theatre department at the Seoul Institute of the Arts in 2005 to try saying it with his body instead. He made his screen debut at twenty-eight in Yim Soon Rye's "South Bound" and worked through "Way Back Home" (2013), "Cold Eyes" (2013) and "Tazza: The Hidden Card" (2014) before "Reply 1988" made him known.

He got that part by singing Jeong Soo Ra's "Joy" at the audition and impersonating Lee Sun Kyun, Park Hee Soon, Jang Hyuk and Yoo Hae Jin. As Ryu Dong Ryong he is the one of the five who understands girls and understands nothing on an exam paper, and the drama turned him into an advertising fixture the following year — chicken, telecoms, cars, banking — as well as winning him the Awesome Swagger Award at Style Icon Asia in 2016.

Since then: "Entourage" (2016), "The Bros" and "One Line" (2017), the enormous hit "Extreme Job" (2019), his first television lead as Moon Seok Goo in "Pegasus Market" (2019), Hirokazu Kore-eda's "Broker" (2022), "Big Bet" (2022) and "Chief Detective 1958" (2024), which brought him an Excellence Award at the MBC Drama Awards and for which he also sang the theme. He joined the supergroup MSG Wannabe in 2021 and released his own single "Keep Your Head Up" that August. He donates through the Hope Bridge disaster relief association, ten million won each to the 2022 Uljin wildfires and the floods later that year.
