Oh Se Hun was in his last year of primary school, eating tteokbokki at a street stall, when someone from SM Entertainment handed him a card and asked whether he would audition. His mother had told him to run from strangers, so he ran, and it took the scout half an hour to talk him round. He came in through the casting system in 2008, trained until early 2012, and was the fifth member of EXO to be shown to the public that January. He is the group's youngest, its maknae, and its rapper and dancer; in 2019 he and Chanyeol formed the sub-unit EXO-SC and released "What a Life".

He has acted steadily since 2018 — the web dramas "Dokgo Rewind", which won him Best Idol Actor at the Soompi Awards, and "Secret Queen Makers", then the Chinese fantasy "Catman" (2021), a supporting part in SBS's "Now, We Are Breaking Up" the same year, his cinema debut in "The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure" (2022) and the lead in TVING's "All That We Loved" (2023). Before any of that, in 2015, he played himself alongside Chanyeol, D.O. and Baekhyun in "EXO Next Door".

Fashion took to him early. He was named best dressed at Louis Vuitton's Paris shows two years running, in 2017 and 2018; his Vogue Korea cover for the magazine's twenty-second anniversary was its best-selling issue since it launched in 1996, and made him only the second Korean male idol on the cover after G-Dragon. He has been the face of Zegna's XXX line and of Dior Men, and in December 2021 became Dior's first male global ambassador.

He has a Bichon Frisé called Vivi, wears braces behind his teeth which give his "s" a soft edge, and holds a Scottish lordship because his fans bought him a plot of land there for his birthday in 2017. He served as a social service worker from December 2023 and was discharged in September 2025.
