Synopsis
Do Min Joon came down in 1609, in the Joseon era, and never got home. Four hundred years later he is a university lecturer with perfect features, superhuman sight, hearing and speed, a new identity every decade because he does not age, and a settled contempt for the species he has been stuck among. He has three months left before the door back opens.
Then Cheon Song Yi moves in next door: a hallyu actress at the top of her career, loud, vain, spectacularly unbothered, and the double of a girl he saved on his first day on Earth. He sets out to keep his distance and fails at it steadily, while Song Yi is pulled into something worse — Lee Jae Kyung, heir to the S&C Group, whose younger brother Hwi Kyung has loved her since middle school and who has his own reasons for wanting her out of the way.
It ran over the winter of 2013 into 2014 and was extended by an episode because the country would not let it end, taking the Daesang at both the Baeksang Arts Awards and the SBS Drama Awards. It was the biggest Korean drama in China of its era, and remade in five countries.

NOTES & VARIETIES
It was extended from twenty episodes to twenty-one while it was airing, on the strength of its ratings. The extra episode is an epilogue.
It brought Jun Ji Hyun back to television after fourteen years away, and reunited her with Kim Soo Hyun, who had appeared with her in the heist film "The Thieves".
The book Do Min Joon keeps returning to is "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" by Kate DiCamillo. It climbed the Korean bestseller lists while the drama was on.
Part of it was shot at the Petite France theme park, whose sculptures illustrate "The Little Prince" — a boy who leaves his planet among the stars to visit Earth, which is more or less the premise.
It is full of references to other shows. In episode 1 Song Yi asks Do Min Joon whether he is from North Korea, a nod to "Secretly Greatly", in which Kim Soo Hyun had played a North Korean sleeper agent. In episode 5 two children act out a scene between the leads of "The Heirs", and a character in Song Yi's own drama is written out by being "sent abroad", the trick "Princess Aurora" became infamous for. In episode 11 the manhwabang regulars answer with green-light boxes, borrowed from the talk show "Witch Hunt".
Suzy's cameo in episode 17 as one of Do Min Joon's students plays on "Dream High", where she and Kim Soo Hyun were classmates.
Lee Hong Ki's "I'm Saying" plays in episode 5.
On December 20, 2013 the writer Kang Kyung Ok claimed on her blog that the premise had been taken from her 2008 comic "Seol Hee". HB Entertainment rejected it — its male lead is human, not an alien, and Park Ji Eun had been working on the story since 2003 — and SBS said it would look into the matter. Kang sued for ₩600 million on May 20, 2014 and dropped the case on July 3 after an out-of-court settlement.
It was so popular in China that the Chinese producer Meng Jiang Wei re-cut it into a two-hour feature for cinemas in the summer of 2014.
When it aired on Anhui STV from January 29, 2016 the ending had been changed: Do Min Joon is a novelist, and the story is a novel he wrote for Cheon Song Yi. Chinese broadcast rules do not permit aliens or ghosts, so he was rewritten out of being one.
The Indonesian version, "Kau Yang Berasal Dari Bintang", was taken off air after SBS found it had copied the original outright — story, timeline, characters and whole scenes — rather than adapting it under the licence it had bought.
A American remake was discussed with ABC and dropped. Rumours of a second season surfaced in 2016 and were denied by the director.
