Park Ji Sang is a hepato-pancreato-biliary surgeon at the best cancer hospital in the country, and a vampire. He carries VBT-01, the virus his parents were infected with before him, and he holds his thirst down with medication so that he can go on operating on the terminally ill. He believes in the sanctity of human life with a conviction that costs him something every day, and he is cold with everyone because it is easier.
Yoo Ri Ta entered medical school at seventeen and is the niece of the chairman whose group owns the hospital. She is as good as she thinks she is and says so, and Ji Sang falls for her without meaning to — not knowing, at first, that she is the girl he pulled out of a wolf pack on Jeju years ago. Above them both is Lee Jae Wook, the hospital director everyone trusts: gentle, patient, infected by choice, and the man who had Ji Sang's parents killed.
It rated modestly at home and travelled a long way — top of Viki, DramaFever and MyAsianTV while it aired, the number one topic on Weibo, and broadcast in ten countries.
We find out what prompted Park Ji Sang, a vampire, to become a doctor.
Park Ji Sang starts a new job and immediately bumps heads with one of his subordinates, Dr. Yoo Ri Ta.
The fighting with his colleagues takes a back seat when Ji Sang realizes someone knows all about him and his secret.
Ji Sang's skills are unquestioned but his bedside manner needs improving. There seems to be a connection between the people following Ji Sang and his mother's death.
Ji Sang grows worried that the effects of his medication are beginning to wane. The New Drug Development Team is brought onboard, much to the hospital staff's annoyance.
As the New Drug Development Team's intentions are questioned at the hospital, Ji Sang and Ri Ta attend a seminar on Jeju Island together and learn more of Ji Sang's past.
After learning that he isn't the only one infected with his rare disease, Ji Sang strikes a curious bond with Jae Wook.
Ri Ta and Ji Sang are suspicious of the New Drug Development Team's shady actions.
Things continue to get more suspicious as a patient almost dies and Ji Sang finds out that a former patient is dead.
The more Ji Sang learns about Jae Wook and the New Drug team, the more dangerous things start to become.
Knowing who to trust might end up being Ji Sang's biggest struggle in figuring out what is really going on at the hospital.
All the digging didn't go unnoticed, as Director Jae Wook makes it known he has no problem dealing with troublemakers.
Things start to become clearer for Ji Sang after there is an attack on the group researching the virus.
Ji Sang decides to let more people in on his secret as he now needs to come up with a plan to stop Director Jae Wook.
Ji Sang now knows what kind of person the director is; he just needs to get him to admit it.
Everything is now in the open and both Ji Sang and Jae Wook know they are no longer on the same side.
Director Jae Wook makes Ji Sang and his team an offer that they just can't in good conscience say no to.
Ji Sang is working on finding a cure, but his team will have to move fast as the patient's symptoms keep getting worse.
Director Jae Wook now feels like he has the go-ahead to get rid of all annoyances.
Things have reached a breaking point where Ji Sang can no longer just let Director Jae Wook and his people do what they want.
